If the float level must be reset, it can be done by bending the
lip that comes into contact with the gasoline intake needle. Bending
the lip up will lower the float level and bending it down will
raise it. Only a slight bend is necessary to change the float level.open.
Insert the gauge between the metering rod jet and the throttle
arm as shown in Fig. 253. Re-move the connector rod and back off
the throttle stop screw until the throttle valve is closed tightly.
Checking Carburetor Float Level
Metering Rods
The metering rod, which controls the amount of gasoline
passing through the jet, can be changed to meet the various climatic,
fuel or driving conditions.

These various sizes are available through the parts warehouses
and are marked as listed above and shown in Fig. 251.
Fig. 252— Metering Rod Gauge
Whenever a new metering rod is to be installed or the
old metering rod has been removed from the carburetor the gauge
shown in Fig. 252 should be used to check to be sure that the position
of the throttle valve and the metering rod are in correct relation
with each other. This gauge can be purchased from any one of Chevrolet's
zone warehouses.
To use this gauge, remove the metering rod from the carburetor
with the throttle valve fully

Fig. 253— Checking Throttle Connector
Rod with Metering Rod Gauge
Allow the pin to rest on the gauge under normal spring pressure.
Bend the connector rod until the ends of the throttle connector
rod enter the holes in the levers freely. Reassemble the connector
rod. Check by making sure that the pin rests lightly on the end
of the gauge with the throttle valve closed tightly. Remove gauge
and reassemble metering rod and readjust the throttle stop screw.
To Disassemble Carburetor
Remove the dust cover from the carburetor body. Remove the throttle
connector rod and the accelerating pump plunger shaft connection
from the accelerator pump arm. Remove the metering rod spring from
around the metering rod and re-move the metering rod from the cover.
Care should be taken to remove the metering rod without bending
it. This can be done by threading the metering rod carefully over
the pin on the throttle lever. Remove the screws holding the bowl
cover to the carburetor body and remove the cover and float. Remove
the float and needle valve and seat from the cover.
