Should there by an opening at either end of the gauge, it indicates incorrect caster. I f the tapered gauge does not enter farther than 1 degree mark on the tapered gauge, the caster angle is within limits, providing both sides are within % degree of each other. If the caster angle is beyond limits, make a note of the amount out for use when making corrections.

Checking King Pin Inclination

Turn the gauge arm towards the frame. The knife edge of the gauge should contact all along the surface of the fixture plate. If it does, king pin inclination or angle is O. K. See Fig. 183. Should there be an opening at either end of the gauge, it

indicates incorrect king pin inclination. If tapered gauge does not enter farther than %°, the king pin inclination is within limits. If king pin inclination is beyond limits, make a note of the amount of incorrect king pin angle for use when making corrections.

To increase caster install the bending tools as shown in Fig. 184. Set the protractor on the shock absorbers. Center bubble in the protractor and

note reading. Set the protractor for the degree of change necessary, as indicated by the wedge plate during the checking operations.

Pump the hydraulic jack and set the protractor on shock absorbers. Check the bubble in protractor for centering. If it does not center, continue bending until it does.
To decrease caster, install the bending tools as shown in Fig. 185. The bending procedure is the same as when increasing caster.
Correcting King Pin Inclination
To increase king pin inclination, install the bending tools as shown in Fig. 186. Place the spindle gauge arm on the king pin extension. Set the protractor on pad of the spindle gauge and center bubble in protractor, and note reading. Set protractor for the degree of change necessary as indicated by the wedge gauge during the checking operation.
